University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa – April 11, 2025 — The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) is in mourning following the untimely passing of Davis Frimpong Manso, a vibrant and dedicated third-year student in the Department of Logistics and Transport. His death, which occurred on April 10, 2025, has sent shockwaves through the university community, leaving fellow students, lecturers, and friends heartbroken.

A Promising Life Cut Short

Davis was more than just a student — he was a beacon of ambition, intelligence, and positivity within the UMaT campus. Known for his academic excellence and warm demeanor, Davis was on track to become a rising figure in Ghana’s growing logistics and transport sector. His passion for his field, coupled with his leadership qualities and love for learning, earned him admiration from both peers and faculty.

“He was the kind of student every lecturer hoped for — inquisitive, respectful, and deeply committed to excellence,” shared one of his lecturers. “His passing is not just a loss to the department, but to the future of the profession.”

A Community United in Grief

News of Davis’s death was first shared through the university’s official Twitter account, where UMaT expressed deep condolences to his family and loved ones. The tribute sparked an outpouring of heartfelt messages across social media platforms, with classmates, alumni, and university staff sharing touching memories and personal tributes.

A trending hashtag in his memory has since united students and friends in a digital space of reflection and solidarity, showcasing just how deeply Davis touched those around him.

Honouring His Legacy

In the face of sorrow, the UMaT community has chosen to celebrate Davis’s life — remembering not just how he died, but how he lived. Plans are already underway for memorial services and on-campus gatherings where students and staff can come together, offer support, and find healing in unity.

“Though we grieve, we also give thanks for the time we had with Davis,” said a student representative. “He lived with purpose, and his legacy will continue through all who knew and loved him.”

A Call for Compassion and Support

This heartbreaking event is also a poignant reminder of the need for emotional support within academic communities. UMaT is urging students experiencing grief or distress to take advantage of its counseling and mental health services. Promoting open conversations around emotional wellbeing is now more important than ever.
